Trifork and Qampo join forces to improve healthcare planning with AI
Better use of existing capacity could free up time for patient care as healthcare systems face growing pressure and increasingly complex patient pathways
Patient appointments, staff, facilities and time have to fit together every day across healthcare. Much of that planning is still done manually, and a single change can affect waiting times, staffing and capacity elsewhere in the organisation.
Trifork Digital Health and Qampo have entered a partnership to develop AI-supported planning solutions that can handle some of these dependencies. The work builds on experience from both psychiatry and somatic care in Central Denmark Region.
- Better planning has long been recognised as a way to free up capacity in healthcare. But the reality is complex. It is not simply about calendars and schedules. It is about patients, employees, workflows and many different considerations that all need to come together, says Karen Skjerbæk Jørgensen, CCO at Trifork Digital Health
Complex planning is part of everyday healthcare
At the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, an assessment can require several consultations over a few weeks, with clinicians and rooms to be coordinated along the way. At Horsens Regional Hospital, patient appointments must be matched with facilities and the right staff competencies.
Changes, waiting lists and limited resources make the task even more difficult. In practice, staff in one part of an organisation may be working overtime while available capacity elsewhere is not fully used.
-Large parts of the planning process are still carried out manually and require extensive coordination between employees, patient pathways and physical facilities. These are complex workflows where even small improvements could potentially make a significant difference for both patients and staff, says Morten Juul, Head of Digital Psychiatry in the Central Denmark Region.
Combining planning expertise with healthcare experience
Qampo brings more than ten years of experience with AI-based resource planning in sectors including elderly care, transport and logistics. Trifork Digital Health brings experience in healthcare IT, integrations, secure software development and clinical workflows.
- For more than ten years, we have worked with AI-based planning solutions in other complex industries, where better planning has delivered tangible results in terms of capacity utilisation and coordination. Healthcare is also one of the most complex areas to plan for, which is why it requires both strong planning capabilities and a deep understanding of clinical workflows and healthcare IT. That is the combination of expertise we bring together in this partnership, says Ali Khatam, CEO of Qampo
The companies are already analysing planning and capacity challenges in psychiatry and somatic care. They are also in dialogue with several regions and other healthcare stakeholders about concrete collaborations and pilot projects.
